On 2 September during his working trip to Moscow the Rais (Head) of Tatarstan Rustam Minnikhanov took part in a strategic session on raising housing affordability for citizens held by the Chairman of the Russian Government Mikhail Mishustin.

Speaking at the session, Mikhail Mishustin stated that even though the Government is doing systemic work on raising the quality and affordability of housing for all our citizens, the demand in the housing market is going down for a number of reasons. Necessary solutions have been developed with the aim of overcoming this trend and first of all regarding additional fees that banks charged when providing mortgages on preferential terms. “The President called this situation unacceptable, noting that the state already subsidizes the issuance of such loans. And all key crediting organizations have cancelled these fees and expanded mortgage programmes limit so that developers continue their work and new houses appear in the market where people can find suitable housing for themselves,” he said.

He also spoke about additional assistance to be given to the construction branch in small cities and emphasized the necessity of permanent control of the situation in this sphere.

Mikhail Mishustin reminded that earlier the Head of the state attracted special attention to the need of increasing the amount of individual houses construction, allocation of land plots and development of necessary engineering infrastructure for them. A set of measures in this respect have already been implemented, he said.

The participants of the session also discussed measures for creating maximum favourable conditions for the construction branch development and raising the affordability of housing for people, implementation of mortgage programmes which have a preferential interest rate today and a number of other important issues.
