Rais of Tatarstan takes part in opening Fencing Center in Kazan

On 29 August the Rais (Head) of Tatarstan Rustam Minnikhanov, the Mayor of Kazan Ilsur Metshin and the President of the Russian Fencing Federation Ilgar Mammadov took part in a ceremony of opening the Fencing Center located on Korolenko Street in Kazan.

Upon his arrival to the Center Rustam Minnikhanov talked to Olympic champions Nailya Gilyazova and Marta Martyanova , who glorified the Kazan Fencing School, and Nailya Gilyazova thanked the leadership of the republic for having implemented such an important project. “I am sincerely happy for young athletes. Here they have all the best conditions. Go ahead to new victories,” the Champion of the 1976 Olympics said.

Speaking at the ceremony, Rustam Minnikhanov congratulated participants of the event with the coming Day of the Republic and said that Tatarstan has glorious fencing traditions. “Today we are opening the most modern Fencing Center where there are all conditions for training and organization of competitions. Young athletes should continue our glorious fencing traditions. I wish you success,” he said.

Today more than one thousand people are doing fencing in the republic and 11 of them are members of the Russia team. Tatarstan annually organizes fencing championships and Cups of Tatarstan well as All-Russia and inter-regional competitions for people of all ages.
