On August 28, the Rais (Head) of Tatarstan Rustam Minnikhanov took part in a solemn ceremony of unveiling the bust to the participant of the World War II, the Soviet and Russian military commander, General of the Army Makhmut Akhmetovich Gareev, which was erected next to the multidisciplinary lyceum 188, not far from General Makhmut Gareev Street in Kazan. The author was a member of the Union of Artists of Tatarstan Fanil Valiullin.

Minnikhanov noted that Gareev was born in the Urals, but his heart has always remained true to his Tatar roots - he spoke proudly about his origin and often visited the republic. «The life of General Gareev is an example of selfless service to the Fatherland. He devoted more than 50 years to military service, survived four wars, and was one of the leading military theorists of the country. Scientific works of Makhmut Akhmetovich on military strategy and military history have become part of the intellectual heritage not only of Russia, but also of the entire world community», the Rais of Tatarstan emphasized.

He said that in our days it is especially important for the young people to know their heroes - those who on the call of their hearts, stood up to defend the Motherland, selflessly and courageously fulfilled and are fulfilling their military duty.

Then Rais of the republic offered to honor the memory of Makhmut Gareev with a minute of silence.
