The Rais of Tatarstan: We should step up our cooperation with Hubei Province

On August 19, speaking at his meeting with the Chairman of the Hubei Provincial Committee of the Chinese People’s Political Consultative Conference Sun Wei on the sidelines of the III forum of Russia-China cooperation “ROSTKI” at the Kazan Expo Exhibition Center in Kazan, the Rais (Head) of Tatarstan Rustam Minnikhanov thanked Sun Wei for visiting Kazan to participate in the ROSTKI forum. He emphasized that Tatarstan is actively involved in developing cooperation between Russia and China. Mutual visits of delegations are carried out, the Tatarstan trade and economic mission operates in Beijing, and the Consulate General of the PRC operates in Kazan. Agreements have been signed and are being implemented with a number of companies and universities. Minnikhanov noted the great potential for cooperation between Tatarstan and Hubei Province. Today, the republic has signed intergovernmental agreements with 8 regions of China. The day before, Kazan and Wuhan signed a memorandum of intent on cooperation.

Sun Wei thanked the leadership of Tatarstan for the warm welcome and hospitality shown.

The Rais (Head) of the republic proposed forming a working group to consider the most promising areas for cooperation.

Hubei is a region in the eastern central part of China. The population exceeds 58.3 million people. The capital and largest city is Wuhan. Such areas as industry, mining, metallurgy, mechanical engineering, chemical, petrochemical, automotive and pharmaceutical industries are developed in the region. Hubei also produces building materials, electronics, natural silk, high-tech products and bioengineering. Wuhan is the headquarters of China's second-largest automobile manufacturer Dongfeng Motor Corporation.
