Rais of Tatarstan meets young teachers and scientists of the republic

On 13 August at the new  Museum of Education Belem (Knowledge) located in Kazan Federal University the Rais (Head) of Tatarstan Rustam Minnikhanov had a meeting with  young teachers and scientists of the republic, where he emphasized that one of the most important tasks today is raising the teacher’s authority and status. “I remember in Soviet time there was a special attitude and respect to teachers. Now we are trying to revive this.  Strengthening the material and technical base, equipment is one thing, but the most important thing is people, especially young, progressive and motivated teachers. We have to do a lot in this respect,” he said. 

The participants of the meeting also touched upon an issue of attracting young specialists to educational institutions and Rustam Minnikhanov said that this requires solving two tasks. First the work of a teacher must be prestigious and have a decent salary and second it is necessary to solve the housing problem, including the state support measures.

When young people asked whom the Rais of the republic can name as his main teacher, Rustam Minnikhanov said: “I have many such people in my life. But if I had to choose just one I would say Mintimer (Sharipovish) Shaimiev. He is our teacher and mentor. I started working under his supervision in 1995 and he is the main person among my mentors.” 

He also emphasized that today it is important to get young people interested in science. In particular he supported the idea of holding a scientific and technological Congress of young scientists in the republic next year.
