On 5 August the Rais (Head) of Tatarstan Rustam Minnikhanov as a member of a Russian delegation headed by the Deputy Chairman of the Russian Government Dmitriy Patrushev took part in a plenary session of the Third Conference of the UN on landlocked developing countries held in the Awaza Congress Center of the City of Turkmenbashi and a welcoming meeting of the National Leader of Turkmen People, the Chairman of the People's Council of Turkmenistan Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedow and the UN General Secretary António Guterres with guests of honor of the Forum.
Speaking at the meeting, Rustam Minnikhanov stated that the current conference held under the slogan “Advancing progress through partnership”, is extremely important for developing countries which encounter serious modern challenges. He said he is sure the final declaration will call for joint solutions to overcome isolation, ensure sustainable development and realize the potential of millions of people living in these countries.
The Rais of Tatarstan assured that Russia and the Republic of Tatarstan in particular attach great importance to the expansion of international cooperation and support initiatives aimed at increasing economic sustainability and development.
“Tatarstan is one of the leading and industrially developed regions of Russia, which also does not have direct access to the sea. However, thanks to the support of our country, over the past decades we have managed to achieve significant success in the development of international relations and the economy. We are actively expanding trade, economic, scientific, technical and cultural cooperation with many countries of the world, implementing joint projects and attracting investments,” Rustam Minnikhanov said and briefly told the participants of the meeting about transport corridor “North-South” which the republic is the nodal center of and about highly developed and efficient water, air, automobiles and railway transportation which makes it possible for Tatarstan to have access to five seas and makes the republic a good example of efficient logistics for landlocked countries.
The Conference opened today plans to approve a new framework document for the countries in this category for the next ten years – the Awaza Action Programme aimed at coordinating national actions and regional integration efforts into global policy frameworks, and thus setting them on a more dynamic and inclusive path to sustainable development, while protecting them from future shocks and disasters.
