On 6 June, in his welcoming speech at a ceremonial event dedicated to the Russian Language Day and 226th birthday of Aleksandr Pushkin  held in the Jalil State Opera and Ballet Theatre in Kazan with participation of the State Counselor of the republic Mintimer Shaimiev, the Rais (Head) of Tatarstan Rustam Minnikhanov said: “I congratulate you with the Russian Language Day which is quite justifiably celebrated on the birthday of the Great Russian Poet Aleksandr Pushkin. His works are filled with respectsand love to Russian traditions, language and culture and have had a substantial impact on the development of Russian poetry and fiction. His appeal to folk tales, epics and legends is a contribution to the preservation of folklore heritage as an integral part of Russian identity.

Pushkin consciously sought to avoid using foreign words without any necessity, actively promoting the use of the Russian language in literature..

This is still relevant today. As Vladimir Putin stated at a meeting of the Council for the Implementation of the state policy in supporting Russian language and languages of people of Russia yesterday it is fundamentally important to consistently get rid of foreign borrowings that pollute and distort the Russian language.

We are grateful to Vladimir (Vladimirovich) for recognizing the need to create additional conditions for the preservation and support of the languages of all peoples of Russia and linguistic diversity, which are the national treasure and historical and cultural heritage of our country.

In Tatarstan, special attention is invariably paid to the preservation and support of the Russian language and culture. The holidays "Karavon", "Spasskaya Fair", "Alekseevskie Perezvony", "Kuzminki" are vivid examples of the living connection between generations, the preservation of identity and the strengthening of the unity of the multinational people of Russia.”

Having mentioned various events organized for children and young people, the Rais of the republic said: “I would like to express my gratitude to the community leaders, teachers and cultural figures who make a great contribution to the important task of preserving the spiritual heritage. Your work contributes to strengthening interethnic harmony, developing cultural dialogue and the prosperity of Russia.”

In conclusion he wished everyone happiness, love, peace and prosperity and handed in Russian and Tatarstan State awards to the most outstanding representatives of the community, workers of culture and teachers.
