On 24 May in his address on the occasion of the Russian Folk Fest Karavon, the Rais (Head) of Tatarstan Rustam Minnikhanov congratulated residents of the republic with the holiday and said: “This centuries-long holiday reflects beauty and depth of Russian traditional culture. The ancient rite gives a feeling of belonging to one’s origins and inseparable connection with glorious heritage of many generations of ancestors. And Karavon reels of the Settlement of Nikolskoy have a special meaning.

From year to year the original songs and rites fest broadens the friendly circle of lovers of folk art thus emphasizing the strength of really traditional values: true faith, benevolence, unity, love of live, hospitality and mutual respect.

The polyphony of the Russian Karavon takes on a special sound on the Day of Slavic Literature and Culture also celebrated today. The light of enlightenment given by Cyril and Methodius became a guide for Russian fiction and philosophical thought. Folk wisdom, combined with spirituality and the desire for knowledge, became the solid foundation of the rich Russian culture.

Preservation and multiplication of our original traditions are the solid foundation in the years of trouble and the source of strength in striving for new achievements for the benefit of the Fatherland, unity and solidarity in the development of our society.”

In conclusion Rustam Minnikhanov wished all Karavon participants and its guests bright mood, good heath, happiness and prosperity. “Wider Circle, Karavon!” he said
