On 3 April, speaking at his meeting with President of Tajikistan Emomali Rakhmon  and the Prime Minister of the republic Kokhir Rasulzoda in Dushanbe, the Rais (Head) of Tatarstan Rustam Minnikhanov said that Tatarstan attaches great attention to the development of cooperation with Tajikistan within the framework of traditionally friendly Russia-Tajikistan relations and thanked Emomali Rakhmon for their meeting on the sideline of the BRICS Summit in Kazan, where they agreed about a reciprocal visit.

According to results of 2024 the Tatarstan-Tajikistan trade turnover nearly doubled and made 77.3m dollars US. However, the parties agreed that these amounts do not reflect the potential of mutual cooperation and agreed that the current visit must become another impetus for increasing the turnover. Today a number of Tatarstan enterprises deliver their produce to Tajikistan, including trucks, car fuel and chemical and petrochemical products.

Speaking at the meeting, Rustam Minnikhanov said: “We are interested in expansion of presence of our leading companies in the market of your country. We can supply helicopters, petrochemical, compressor and refrigerating equipment, agricultural machinery and car tyres and a wide range of household chemicals, medical and pharmaceutical products. It its turn Tajikistan could increase its export of light and agricultural produce to Tatarstan. On top of that the republic is ready to share its experience in digitalization of state services, establishment of special economic zones and industrial technical parks.” He added that the republic also attaches great attention to the interaction in the spheres of culture, education and sports and currently there are more than 900 Tajik students at universities of Tatarstan.

Having stated the priorities of cooperation at the level of Russia and Tajikistan regions, Emomali Rakhmov emphasized with pleasure that relations with Tatarstan are picking up steam and said that the cooperation in the spheres of industry,  power sector, machine-building, transport, construction and agriculture are rather promising. The parties of the meeting also discussed an opportunity of establishing joint ventures in processing raw materials into ready products such as silk and wool threads, various kinds of textiles, uniforms, furniture and medical products.
They also agreed that there is a necessity in increasing quotas for educating Tajikistan citizens in Russia.
