Rustam Minnikhanov: Tatarstan must become the advanced Russian center in AI

On 31 March, speaking at a regular meeting of the Association of Facilitating the Digital Development held at Kazan Federal University and which discussed prospects of the AI development in the republic, the Rais (Head) of Tatarstan Rustam Minnikhanov said that the republic must become the advanced Russian center in AI.

Walking round an exhibition in the lobby, the Rais of the republic got acquainted with examples of the applied use of AI and its elements, such as AI projects helping to give prompt response to complaints of citizens, process large volumes of documents, provide help in finding pathologies based on medical examination data and to raise the HR work efficiency.

Rustam Minnikhanov reminded that the Russian President called developments in AI sphere one of the key conditions for scientific and technological sovereignty of the country and said “I ask all members of the Association to take an active part in the AI Federal Project.”

He emphasized that Tatarstan has a number of experience in implementing AI and concluded:” Our aim is to become the advanced Russian center in AI. The Ministry for Digital Development together with the Association should generate proposals and coordinate their work”.

In his speech the President of Tatarstan Academy of Sciences Rifkat Minnikhanov, who is also the Chairman of the Council of the Association, named the key trends of AI by 2030 and representatives of the Tattelecom Communication Company told about their current architecture of working with neural networks, big language models and about current situation with calculation capacities. In their turn specialists of Kazan Federal University informed about prospects of introducing intellectual systems into everyday life, including robotization of medical institutions.

“Many of us are just in the beginning of leaning AI systems. We should consolidate our efforts so that we supplement each other rather than waist resources. We will keep track of this issue,” Rustam Minnikhanov added.
