Rustam Minnikhanov: The fact that in 2026 Kazan will become the cultural capital of the Islamic world gives us an opportunity to integrate into the world agenda

On 15 February at a regular meeting in the Government House of the republic the Rais (Head) of Tatarstan Rustam Minnikhanov told about work of a delegation from the republic in Saudi Arabia on 12-13 February which took part in the 13 Conference of Ministers of Culture of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) and said: ”The Conference has taken a decision to nominate Kazan as a cultural capital of the Islamic world in 2026. It is a big event and we congratulate all those who took part in this work.” 

“It is the recognition of achievements of our enlighteners, scientists, representatives of art and culture as well as the sign of trust to Russia from the Islamic world. It gives us an opportunity to integrate into the world agenda,” he said and gave an errand to prepare an actions plan for the forthcoming topical year.

The Rais of the republic also reminded that on 15 February Russia celebrates the 36th anniversary of withdrawal of Soviet troops from Afghanistan. “This day has become a symbol of courage and resilience of all those who fulfilled their international and military duty with honor. Ceremonial events with participation of the military who fought in Afghanistan and veterans of military actions and hot spots will be held in all municipalities and urban districts,” he stated.

In addition Rustam Minnikhanov informed about the human resource programme “Batyrlar – Heroes of Tatarstan” which starts for veterans and participants of the special military operation in the republic on 18 February. It is similar to the federal programme “The Time of Heroes” and its aim is to prepare veterans and participants of the special military operation for their future work in state power bodies and state companies.
