Rustam Minnikhanov holds 5th meeting of the Supervisory Board of world class research center for Liquid Hydrocarbons

On 16 January in the library of the Kazan Federal University the Rais (Head) of Tatarstan Rustam Minnikhanov held a meeting of the Supervisory Board of the World Class Research Center for Rational use of Liquid Hydrocarbon Deposits of the Planet (CLH).

Welcoming participants of the fifth meeting, Rustam Minnikhanov reminded that the Year of Scientific and Technological Development in Tatarstan has drawn a symbolic line under the completion of the Science and Universities National Project.

Having stated that universities of the republic are widely involved into the strategic leadership programme Priority-2030, the Rais of the republic said: “Tatarstan firmly holds its position among the top three leaders of the scientific and technological development ranking of the country’s regions. The Center for Liquid Hydrocarbons (CLH) holds a special place among the facilities of the advanced scientific and educational infrastructure of the republic. Its research and development lay the foundation for the competitiveness of economy – the oil industry.”

He also emphasized that it is oil production that will keep determining the pace of economic growth of Tatarstan for a long time, the dynamics of its investment activity as well as the regional budget revenues.

Speaking about the Center, Rustam Minnikhanov informed that it unites leading petroleum science institutions – Kazan Federal University (KFU), Ufa State Petroleum Technological University, Gubkin Russian State University of Oil and Gas, and Skolkovo Institute of Science and Technology, which all together train about half of all specialists for domestic oil industry as well as highly qualified staff for 20 foreign countries of Latin America, the Middle and Far East

Welcoming participants of the meeting the Rector of the KFU Lenar Safin, who is the Deputy Chairman of the International Supervisory Board, noted that the CLH is one of the key centers in the country, employing 250 specialists – geologists, ecologists, mathematicians and physicists, the developments of which are actively used by many large companies.

After the Board reviewed the results of the CLH’s activities in 2020-2024 and listened to the summary report presented by Vice-Rector of KFU Danis Nurgaliev, its members approved the work done

In conclusion, the participants of the meeting proposed to organize a strategic session on issues of rational use of liquid hydrocarbon deposits of the planet at the International economic Forum “ Russia – the Islamic World: KazanForum “, having stated that a panel session for disruptive Russian technologies for oil and gas brown fields was held at the Forum in 2024  and the topic raised great interest.

Rustam Minnikhanov approved the proposal and gave an errand to start the work, having stated that these topics are important all over the world and proposing to invite specialists.
