As many as 875 thousand people attended New Year events in open air

On 10 January, speaking at a briefing in Tatarstan Cabinet of Ministers, the Head of Kazan Directorate of Culture Azat Abzalov told that 875 thousand people attended New Year events organized in open air in Kazan.

“We witness a sharp increase on the number of attendees. If I am not mistaken last year there were about 500 thousand people while this year there were by 100 thousand more only at sites in open air and taking into consideration the Kazan Kremlin it is 875 thousand guests,” he said.

”Dismantling of fir trees after New Year holidays will start after 15 January and as the amount of work is huge it will be done step by step,” Azat Abzalov informed.

He also said that a ceremony of seeing off the Old New Year will be held on 13 January by the main New Year tree at the Family Centre in Kazan but the illumination on city streets will still be running.

The First Deputy Minister of Culture of the republic Yuliya Adgamova informed that 84 thousand spectators came to performances, five of them for children from families of participants of the special military operation, of the Kazan Circus during the holidays.

The Deputy Head of the Main Directorate of Russian Emergencies Ministry for Tatarstan Maksim Guschin reported that three people got injuries because of improper use of fireworks and 11 persons were brought to responsibility for violations of regulations of sales and use of fireworks.

He also told that there were 90 fires in Tatarstan during New Year holidays from 29 December till 8 January killing one person compared to five people killed by fire last year.
