On 22 October the Rais (Head) of Tatarstan Rustam Minnikhanov as a member of a Russian delegation took part in a meeting of Russian President Vladimir Putin with the President of China Xi Jinping, which took place on the sidelines of the BRICS Summit in Kazan.
According to results of the last year, the trade turnover between Tatarstan and China nearly doubled and exceeded 3bn US dollars. The republic has signed eight agreements with Chinese provinces and takes part in work of the Cooperation Council in the Volga-Yangtze format. There is the General Consulate of China in Kazan and the trade and economic representative office of Tatarstan in Beijing.
The project of the Haier Company, which built 5 plants in the republic, is one of the largest in the republic and a number of large Tatarstan enterprises cooperate with China. More than two thousand Chinese students study at universities of Kazan and the Chinese airline opened the direct flight between Kazan and Shanghai in September of the current year.
