On 28 September, speaking at his meeting in the regional Cabinet of Ministers with the Minister of Energy, Petroleum and Mining of Senegal Birame Soulèye Diop, who came on a working trip to Russia, the Rais (Head) of Tatarstan Rustam Minnikhanov said that cooperation of Russia with African countries have always been constructive, and in its turn Tatarstan is interested in developing interaction with Senegal within the framework of Russia-Senegal relations.
Lately our contacts with Senegal have become noticeably active, Rustam Minnikhanov emphasized and reminded about his visit to Senegal in March 2022 and the visits of Senegal Ambassador to Russia Jean-Batiste Thiathi Tine in November 2022 and the former President of Senegal Macky Sall in June 2023.
The meeting of Rustam Minnikhanov with the President of the SIFI Group of Companies Abderrahman Ndiaye in July of the current year resulted in establishment of a working group on cooperation of Tatarstan with countries of the Wet Africa in the whole and Senegal in particular, the Rais of the republic said and added: “I am sure our joint work will facilitate broadening of our cooperation.”
Having informed that even though the trade turnover between Senegal and Tatarstan as one of Russian regions has increased but is still insufficient, Rustam Minnikhanov said that the republic is ready to deliver a broad range of produce and is also interested in Senegal import.
It was mentioned at the meeting that the republic has good prospects in joint work with Senegal in the spheres of power industry, machine-building, agriculture and innovational branches, and Rustam Minnikhanov thanked the Minister for his visit and interest to Tatarstan as there are good prospects for broadening our cooperation, he said.
In his turn Birame Soulèye Diop thanked for an opportunity to visit Tatarstan and stated that Senegal is the country with mainly Muslim population where representatives of various confessions live in friendship. He also expressed his interest in the development of further relations with Tatarstan.
