On 19 August the Rais (Head) of Tatarstan Rustam Minnikhanov accompanied by the Aid to the Rais Olesya Baltusova, the regional Minister of Culture Irada Ayupova, the First Deputy Minister of Construction, Architecture and Housing Utilities Sector Aleksey Frolov and the Chairman of Tatarstan State Committee for Tourism Sergey Ivanov, visited a number of sites in the historical center of the City of Yelabuga
On the site of the regional monument of Cultural Heritage of the XVIII-XIX centuries the Head of the region Rustem Nuriyev informed Rustam Minnikhanov about reconstructed facilities and the current projects and told that last year the tourists flow for the first time exceeded 1 m guests. Today 184 historical and cultural heritage sites cover the area of more than 490 hectares, he said and added that the opening of a new bridge across the Kama river will make it possible to increase the number of visitors from Naberezhnyye Chelny and Nizhnekamsk.
Rais of the republic stated that Yelabuga is one of the cultural centers of out republic and said: “Every year the city carries out huge work in restoration of its historical appearance. The number of tourists to Yelabuga has increased and it is very important to maintain this dynamics.”
Later the same day Rustam Minnikhanov got acquainted with the improvement of the pedestrianized Gassar Street, the Victory Memorial, the Shishkin Ponds Park, memorial houses of famous Russian Artist Ivan Shishkin and the House of merchant Yemelyanov and the reconstruction of the Marina Tsvetayeva complex.
During the tour round the historical center of Yelabuga Rustam Minnikhanov also looked round the building of trade and bank employees, the house of the Katmyshevs and the House of a merchant Ikonnikov.
