On 5 July, speaking at a meeting in the Government House of the republic, the Rais (Head) of Tatarstan Rustam Minnikhanov said that hot weather resulted in growing accidents rate on water bodies and escalation of the situation with fires.
The republic is experiencing abnormally hot weather with the daily average temperature being by 7 degrees higher than the normal and according to the next days’ forecast the daily temperature will reach +37 degrees, and Rustam Minnikhanov stated: ”This causes escalation of fire hazard with 120 settlements and 80 children’s recreation camps getting into the risk zone.”
He also said that this hot weather caused the number of accidents at water bodies with 53 people, including 6 kids, already drowned.
“Heads of municipalities, the Emergencies Ministry and the Ministry of Forestry must take measures to prevent emergencies and additional measures for firefighting water supply of settlements, children’s recreation camps and facilities located in or near forests. It is necessary to step up measures to prevent people’s deaths at water bodies. This is our task and today we should be more attentive,” Rustam Minnikhanov emphasized.
