On 1 June the Rais (Head) of Tatarstan Rustam Minnikhanov accompanied by the Mayor of Kazan Ilsur Metshin and the regional Minister for Youth Affairs Rinat Sadykov visited Kazan Children Sports and Recreation Camp “Molodaya Gvardiya” built in 1932, the capital overhaul of which finished this year and resulted in construction of 10 new dorms and 2 administrative buildings equipped with all modern engineering facilities. Sports infrastructure also was renovated and the camp area improved.
The capacity of the camp increased from 4 to 5 shifts a year, welcoming up to 1400 kids (280 per shift).
Rustam Minnikhanov looked round the new camp club, dorms, the medical station, a canteen, gazeboes and the football pitch, and speaking at a line up on the occasion of opening the first shift, he congratulated children with the Children’s Day and said: “It is a remarkable camp on par with Artek. You are all athletes. Be strong, successful and persistent. Persistency mostly defines success in sports”.
In his turn Ilsur Metshin thanked the leadership of the republic for supporting renovation of children’s camps. “In the Year of the Family we are opening the fifth camp which underwent capital overhaul and in this case it was built from a scratch,” he said.
The camp which has all necessary sports facilities gives young athletes opportunity to train in four kinds of sports, namely football, basketball, track and field athletics and speed skating.
