On 17 May at the representative building of the Kazan Kremlin, Tatarstan State Counselor Mintimer Shaimiev, who is the UNESCO Good Will Ambassador, had a meeting with the Director General of the Islamic World Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (ICESCO) Dr. Salim Mohammed AlMalik, who came to Tatarstan to take part in the XV International Economic Forum “Russia-the Islamic World: KazanForum 2024” being held in Kazan these days.
Speaking at the meeting, Salim Mohammed AlMalik expressed his gratitude for warm welcome and emphasized that he is glad to have another meeting with the First Tatarstan President, who is well-known in Islamic countries as the First Winner of the International King Faisal Prize.
He congratulated Mintimer Shaimiev with the inscription of the fourth Tatarstan site into the UNESCO World Heritage List, namely the Astronomic Observatory of Kazan Federal University, and emphasized that the republic also attaches great attention to developing cooperation with the ICESCO. He invited the State Counselor to attend the ICESCO stand at the Russia Halal Expo Exhibition on the sidelines of the Forum.
The parties of the meeting also discussed issues of developing cooperation between Tatarstan and the ICESCO.
The Islamic World Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (ICESCO) established in 1981, is concerned with fields of education, science, culture and communication in Islamic countries in order to support and strengthen relations among OIC Member States. It is named the Islamic analogue of the UNESCO.
