Rustam Minnikhanov: Tatarstan attaches great attention to development of ties with the ICESCO

On 15 May, speaking at his meeting with the Director General of the Islamic World Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization Salim bin Mohammed AlMalik on the sidelines of the XV KazanForum, the Rais (Head) of Tatarstan Rustam Minnikhanov thanked his guest for his participation in the KazanForum. “It is nice that there is an ICESCO stand at the Russia Halal Expo exhibition,” he stated. 

The Rais of Tatarstan emphasized that the republic attaches great attention to development of ties with the ICESCO. “Within the framework of the activity of the Strategic Vision Group “Russia – the Islamic World” we consistently interact with partners from the Muslim countries both in economic and humanitarian spheres,” he said. 

Rustam Minnikhanov told about a number of landmark events held in the republic such as the Kazan Global Youth Summit and the Izge Bolgar Djiene and the work in the sphere of youth policy and informed that last year a delegation from the republic visited the ICESCO headquarters in Marocco. “Today there are all opportunities for ramping up our further cooperation in promotion of traditional values and the development of culture, education and science,” he added. 

The ICESCO Director General agreed with Rustam Minnikhanov and proposed to consider an opportunity of organizing joint youth events within the coming BRICS summit. Также Salim AlMalik also invited the Rais of Tatarstan to visit the ICESCO headquarters in Rabat

The ICESCO is a specialized organization that operates under the aegis of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC), and is concerned with fields of education, science, culture and communication in Islamic countries in order to support and strengthen relations among its 54 Member States. Russia has been an Observer in the Organization since 2007.
