On 9 May Tatarstan Prime Minister Aleksey Pesoshin accompanied by the Head of his Office Shamil Gafarov paid homage to Soviet soldiers buried at the Arsk cemetery in Kazan and together with war veterans and other participants of the ceremony laid flowers and wreaths to the monument of the Soldier-the Last Man Standing.
After the moment of silence the guards of honor fired a three-shot salvo and then the participants of the ceremony laid flowers to the monument of The Mourning Soldier and paid homage to the Hero of the Soviet Union, the legendary pilot Mikhail Devyatayev and the Hero of the Soviet Union Boris Kuznetsov.
The graves of WW II who died in hospitals of Kazan, soldiers of the Kazan Garrison and other military units deployed in the capital of Tatarstan in 1941-1945 are located in the eastern part on the cemetery.
