Rustam Minnikhanov: Our moral duty is to prevent misrepresentation of historical truth about the Great Patriotic War (WWII)

On 8 May the Rais (Head) of Tatarstan Rustam Minnikhanov held a meeting of the organizational committee on celebrations of the 79th anniversary of the Victory in the WWII held in the Government House of the republic with participation of the State Counselor of the republic Mintimer Shaimiev, the regional Prime Minister Aleksey Pesoshin and members of the government of the republic, representatives of ministries, public organizations and enterprises and heads of cities and regions of the republic. 

Speaking at the meeting, Rustam Minnikhanov emphasized that 9 May 1945 is a sacred event in the heroic history of our country. “Today our moral duty is to prevent misrepresentation of historical truth about the Great Patriotic War (WWII) and to preserve traditions of friendship and mutual help handed to us down by our fathers and grandfathers,” he said.

He stated that today Russian armed Forces and fighting for interests of the country at the special military operation (SMO). “At all times sons of Tatarstan have courageously protected their native land. We are extremely grateful to our heroes for their courage and dedication to the Motherland,” the Rais of the republic said. 

After a moment of silence in memory of the fallen when fighting for their Fatherland, the regional Deputy Prime Minister Layla Fazleyev informed that the main tasks of the organizational committee are the development of united approaches to providing social support to WWII veterans and homefront workers and organizations of military-patriotic and civic-patriotic education in the republic.

She told that today there are 195 direct participants of the WWII living is Tatarstan  and informed about support provided to them such as one-time payment, gifts and personified congratulations from the Rais of the republic which were also passed to veterans in Lizichansk, medical care provided to all veterans and the implementation of the programme of improvement of living conditions of the veterans .

She also told about projects on preservation of the memory of the WWII soldiers and homefront workers and organizations of patriotic education of the youth. 

The Mayor of Naberezhnyye Chelny Nail Magdeev told about support given to the SMO soldiers  and their families, while the Chairman of the Regional Council of Veterans Public Organizations of the republic Khabir Izhtiryakov and the Chairman of the Commission On Youth Affairs, development of volunteerism and patriotic education of the Tatarstan Public In the end of the meeting, Rustam Minnikhanov said that in the days to follow there will be solemn and large scale events held in the republic and gave an errand to pay special attention to safety issues.
