On 5 April the Rais (Head) of Tatarstan Rustam Minnikhanov, who is the Chairman of the Strategic Vision Group “Russia-the Islamic World” and is the head of the Russian delegation at the Summit, took part in a ceremony of opening the XV Summit of heads of states and governments of countries-members of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) which is organized in the City of Banjul in Gambia.
Currently the OIC is the second largest after the UN international inter-governmental organization uniting 57 states on four continents. In 2008 the Russian Administration took a decision to establish a permanent representative office of the Russian Federation by the OIC.
Tatarstan actively works with various institutions and departmental organizations of the OIC and in 2023 the trade turnover of the republic with the OIC countries made nearly 5.7bn US dollars.
