On 4 May the Rais (Head) of Tatarstan Rustam Minikhanov, as the head of the Russian delegation, came on a working trip to the Republic of the Gambia to take part in the 15th Summit of Heads of the states-members of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC).
Since 2005 Russia joined the OIC as an observer, and by the errand of Russian President Vladimir Putin, Rustam Minnikhanov is the Chairman of the Strategic Vision Group “Russia-the Islamic World”, and represents interest of Russia at the Summit
The OIC is an international inter-governmental organization uniting 57 states with the total population of about 1.7bn people most of whom confess Islam. The Summit which is called once in three years is the Supreme Body of the OIC and this year it is held in Gambia on 4-5 May.
The Strategic Vision Group “Russia-the Islamic World”, organized by an initiative of Vladimir Putin plays an important role in interaction with the Muslim world, and the KazanForum has become an active platform of interaction with the Islamic world.
On the sidelines of the Summit, Rustamn Minnikhanov plans to have a number of meetings and to take part in key sessions.
