On 24 April the Rais (Head) of Tatarstan Rustam Minnikhanov went on a working trip to Almetyevsk to take part in an alignment meeting with heads of advanced engineering schools moderated by Russian Minister of Science and Higher Education Valeriy Falkov and organized by the Federal State Autonomous Educational Institution “Socio-center” at the scientific and education center “The Higher School of Oil”.

From 24 to 26 April participants of the meeting discuss prospects of training specialists for achieving the technological sovereignty of the country, the advanced engineering schools management system and tools of attracting gifted young people to the schools.

Before the beginning of the meeting Valeriy Falkov and Rustam Minnikhanov got acquainted with a specialized exhibition of educational projects organized in the lobby of the Oil School.

Speaking at the meeting, Valeriy Falkov said: “We are implementing a large scale project of advanced engineering schools. It is aimed at solving a simple task of training highly qualified engineers. We are setting forth an objective to use these engineering schools for transformation of engineering education.”

Answering a question why this transformation is needed, the Minister said: “Because these are challenges of our time. The notion of engineering itself is going through serious changes, our life is facing a rapid rate of change and we are on the threshold of a new technological paradigm”.

“Requests from employers, branches and engineering clearly show that universities should change and first of all this is related to engineering education. This was supplemented by a lack of staff in economy in the total and first of all the lack of engineering specialists,” he continued and added that this problem has a number of important things which can be discussed today.

It was for this reason that the project of advanced engineering schools was launched followed later by a larger project aimed at transformation of the higher education system in the country.

“In any case we going to one target and our task is to reform the engineering education in Russia in such a way so that it become the best in the world,” Valeriy Falkov concluded.
