Rustam Minnikhanov: The spring flooding situation is expected to be acute

On 30 March, speaking at a meeting in the Government House of the republic, the Rais (Head) of Tatarstan Rustam Minnikhanov said that the spring flooding situation in the republic is expected to be acute. 

He said that the parameter of the snowpack and water in it exceed the norm by 1.5-2 times and the water level has already started rising in some rivers. The Rais of the republic said that in the following days there will be rains and temperature rise which will cause snow melting and the highest water levels are expected to exceed normal parameters from 16 to 77 centimeters. 

He said that 10 rivers in 18 regions of the republic can cause flooding and added: “Heads of cities and regions, the Ministries of Construction, Transport and Road Economy and the Emergencies must organize a day-and-night duty of all rescue teams, road and community services and give an operative response to information about all cases of flooding. It is necessary to provide the stock of inert materials with the opportunity of their fast transportation to flooding sites for erecting temporary dams. It is also necessary to double-check and clean all drainage systems and to take all measures for trouble free spring flooding.”
