Rais of Tatarstan Rustam Minnikhanov tells about petrochemical projects at a plenary session “Leadership and sustainability of Russian Energetics” in Moscow

On 20 February, speaking at a plenary session of “Leadership and sustainability of Russian Energetics “of the Forum of National Achievements in Moscow, the Rais (Head) of Tatarstan Rustam Minnikhanov informed: ”Our  republic is an oil-producing region of Russia with more than 35m tonnes of oil produced a year. We have been producing oil since 1943 with the first well bored during the WWII, and since then we have produced more than 3.5bn tonnes of oil.”

He also briefly told about projects having been implemented in petrochemical sphere in the last years.

“If before 2010 we had only one refinery which processed up to 7m tonnes a year, today we have two large refinery complexes,” the Rais of the republic said and reminded that according to the results of 2023 the oil industry of the republic processed 23.7 tonnes of hydrocarbons with 99 per cent of refinery yield.

“These refineries are a raw materials base for our oil chemists. The SIBUR Group has two enterprises in the republic – the Nizhnekamskneftekhim and the Kazan Organic Synthesis Plant, which produce up to 30 per cent of polymers and 42 per cent of rubber in Russia,” he said.

He also told about projects to be launched in the republic in the nearest future such as Ethylene – 600 to be launched in the beginning of 2025 and the expansion of polymer production at the Kazan Organic Synthesis Plant. “Both projects are under implementation and the SIBUR invested 50bn rubles last year and 70bn – in the current year, and I am sure that everything planned will be implemented,” Rustam Minnikhanov said.

He also told about development of gas chemistry and ammonium fertilizers plant in the republic. “In the nearest future by 2028 we must twice increase production of ammonium fertilizers within the project “Ammonium-2,” the Rais of the republic said and emphasized that all the projects are being implemented strictly following all world ecological norms.
