Rais of Tatarstan: Tatarstan and Iran have a huge potential for growth of trade turnover

On 14 February at their meeting in Tehran, the Rais (Head) of Tatarstan Rustam Minnikhanov, who came on a working trip to Iran, and the Minister of Industry, Mine and Trade of the Islamic Republic of Iran Abbas Aliabadi discussed issues of development of foreign trade and growth of trade turnover.

Speaking at the meeting, Rustam Minnikhanov emphasized that Tatarstan and Iran have rich historical, economic and cultural ties and have gained huge cooperation experience.

“In various years Tatarstan companies implemented projects in Iran. Today we are developing cooperation with the Iranian Darik Company, which is a partner of the KAMAZ Automaker giant. There is big interest in developing projects in energy sector with the Mapna Company as well as in the car building with the largest Iranian producer Iran Khodro. To create necessary condition a branch of the World of Business Bank, which is an affiliate of the Melli Iran Bank, was opened in Kazan last year,” he informed.

According to the results for nine months of 2023 the trade turnover between Tatarstan and Iran grew by 1.5 times compared to 2022, having made 162m US dollars. “Tatarstan and Iran have a huge potential for growth of trade  and economic cooperation,” Rustam Minnikhanov emphasized and stated that the republic is interested in delivering KAMAZ trucks, helicopters, passenger and cargo ships, petrochemical products and fertilizers, oil and gas production equipment and compressors, refrigerators, food and agricultural products, medical and pharmaceutical produce. The republic is also expecting for expansion of import of Iranian goods.

“You can see by yourself the possibilities of industrial enterprises of Tatarstan and discuss various issues in detail at the International Economic Forum “Russia-Islamic World: KazanForum” in May this year,” the Rais of the republic said and invited Abbas Aliabadi to Kazan.

In his turn the Iranian Minister stated that currently Iranian airlines are showing interest to Russian manufactured aircraft for renewing the flying stock and helicopters for medical use.
