On 13 February in the evening the Rais (Head) of Tatarstan Rustam Minnikhanov came on a working visit to Iran where he plans to have official meetings and business negotiations in Tehran and Isphahan. Upon his arrival to the Tehran International Airport he was met by Russian Plenipotentiary Ambassador Aleksey Dedov, the Deputy Minister of Industry, Mine and Trade of Iran Mehdi Zeighami and other officials.
During the first day of his visit Rustam Minnikhanov is expected to have meetings with officials of Iran such as the Minister of Oil, the Co-Chairman of Permanent Russian-Iranian Commission on Trade and Economic Cooperation Javad Owji, the Minister of Industry, Mine and Trade of Iran Abbas Aliabadi, Deputy Foreign Minister of Iran Mehdi Safari, who also is an Iranian Sherpa (proxy) in BRICS and others.
The programme of the second day of the visit in Isphahan, where Rustam Minnikhanov will take part in the inter-regional business forum “Isphahan-Tatarstan”, includes his meeting with Governor of the province Reza Mortazavi.
The Russia-Iran trade turnover grew by 15 per cent in 2022 and reached 4.6bn US dollars and Tatarstan also makes its contribution into cooperation between Russia and Iran with its trade turnover with Iran in nine months of 2023 having grown by 1.5 times and having made 162m US dollars.
Tatarstan and Iran have a huge potential for increasing the trade and economic cooperation, as the republic is interested in delivering KAMAZ trucks, helicopters, passenger and cargo ships, petrochemical products and fertilizers, oil and gas production equipment and compressors, refrigerators, food and agricultural products, medical and pharmaceutical produce.
During his previous visit to Iran in September 2022, Rustam Minnikhanov went to East Azerbaijan and Golestan provinces and Tehran, where he met governors of provinces and took part in round tables with business communities, which ensured growth of mutual trade and economic cooperation.
