More than 170 thousand people visited Tatarstan during New Year holidays

On 9 January, speaking at a briefing in the Government House of the republic, Tatarstan Minister of Culture Irada Ayupova informed that more than 170 thousand people from other regions visited the republic during New Year holidays and the municipalities organized more than 6 500 evets for them and local residents.

She also informed that more than 2m visitors took part in holiday events and visited various sites such as the Kazan Kremlin, Kazan Circus, Sviyazhsk Museum-Reserve, the Puppet Theater and Tatars State Philharmonic.

The Chairman of the Tatarstan State Committee on Tourism Sergey Ivanov also informed that that more than 170 thousand people came to Tatarstan from other regions of Russia which was by 5 per cent more compared to the same period last year. “We can see that tourists practically from all regions of Russia – most of them from Moscow and St Petersburg- visited Tatarstan, “he said.

Sergey Ivanov said that the most popular sites for the visitors were the Raifa Monastery, the Kysh Babay (Father Frost) residence and mountain skiing complexes and fishing bases.

The Chief Fire Inspector of Tatarstan Maksim Truschin informed that from 30 December to 9 January there were 87 fires killing five and injuring seven people. “Compared to the same period last year, we can say that the number of fires has decreased by 32.6 per cent and the number of those killed – by one person,” he said, stating that most of fires – 68 per cent happened in the residential sector because of careless handling of fire, violation of fire safety regulations when using stoves and electric appliances.

Maksim Truschin also told that special groups comprised of policemen, Emergencies Ministries stuff and the National Gard Troupes carried out more than 1 thousand checks which prevented more than 1 200 cases of illegal use of fireworks. He also informed that the fire inspectorate organized 10 400 meeting with residents to raise awareness of the fire safety regulation and safe use of fireworks.
