Rustam Minnikhanov asks to pay attention to problems of street and area lighting

On 16 September, speaking at a regional meeting in the Government House of the republic, the Rais (Head) of Tatarstan Rustam Minnikhanov said that the issues of street and area lighting become very important in autumn as outages disrupt comfortable and safe getting round during hours of darkness.

He stated that starting from 1 September the People’s Control and Incident Management systems received 320 complaints on street lighting. “This means that the problem exists. All routs going to kindergartens, schools, sports, youth and social facilities should be illuminated. This needs close monitoring,” Rustam Minnikhanov said.

The Rais of Tatarstan gave an errand to administration of cities and regions to provide operational response to claim of residents concerning street lighting. ”With the aim of traffic safety it is important to ramp up monitoring of illumination of main city highways, streets and pedestrian crossings. Unfortunately lately we have many cases of pedestrian knockdowns which quite often cause death. That is why every pedestrian crossing must be clear, correctly marked and lighted,” he said.

Tatarstan Deputy Prime Minister Shamil Gafarov also stated that the number of car accidents with pedestrians increases in autumn. “It become dark early in the end of august and the beginning of September and this unfortunately increases the number of pedestrians knockdowns .It is very important and burning issue” he said and reminded that a traditional meeting of the Traffic Safety Governmental Commission will be held in December.
