On 30 August, speaking at his meeting with the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Zambia to Russia Shadreck Luwita, the Rais (Head) of Tatarstan Rustam Minnikhanov stated that the role of Africa in the world system and international relations continues to grow. “For Russia Africa is an important foreign political and economic partner, cooperation with whom demands more active development,” he said.
The Rais of the republic stressed that today Tatarstan practically does not have any interaction with Zambia even though there are a lot of opportunities for cooperation and first of all in economy.
The parties agreed to organize an inter-departmental meeting of ministries of trade and industry to define promising spheres for cooperation.
The Ambassador thanked Rustam Minnikhanov for a rare possibility to visit Kazan and get acquainted with culture of the republic. He stated that relations between Zambia and Russia have historic roots. “Russia as the successor state of the USSR was the first to acknowledge independence of Zambia and to establish diplomatic relations with our country,” Mister Luwita emphasized.
He also confirmed readiness to work on expansion of economic relations with Tatarstan.
