On August 18, during his working visit to Dimitrovgrad, the Rais (Head) of Tatarstan Rustam Minnikhanov accompanied by the Governor of the Ulyanovsk region Aleksey Russkikh visited State Research Centre - Research Institute of Atomic Reactors (RIAR).
The RIAR was established in 1956 and is the largest research centre on nuclear technology and various nuclear energy issues in Europe.
Rustam Minnikhanov got acquainted with the main activities of RIAR, and also visited the construction site of the multipurpose fast-neutron research reactor, which is the most important project for the long-term development of the experimental base of the domestic nuclear industry, which will ensure Russia’s leadership in the development of innovative reactor technologies for the next half century.
The new reactor is expected to replace the currently operating BOR-60 facility and will significantly expand the existing experimental capabilities.
Student teams are also involved in the construction of the reactor, including those from Tatarstan. Today, 14 students from various universities of the republic work at the facility. Rustam Minnikhanov talked to the students and wished them success.
