On 30 July at its urgent meeting, held by Tatarstan First Deputy Prime Minister Rustam Nigmatullin by an errand from the Rais (Head) of the republic Rustam Minnikhanov in the Government House of the republic, the regional Cabinet of Ministers discussed measures for mitigation negative consequences of unfavourable weather conditions.
Speaking at the meeting, Rustam Nigmatullin informed that because of a set of unfavourable meteorological phenomena, namely storms, heavy rains, hail and squall winds in the republic on 29 July, 14 settlements in four municipalities were cut from electricity supply., 80 trees fell down, 17 cars and 13 roofs were damaged. He also informed that according to operational information the electricity supply was resumed at 5 in the morning on 30 July.
Rustam Nigmatullin also informed that unfortunately there were victims as one girl was killed and 24 people including two kids were injured as a result of falling trees and feebly fastened constructions.
He said that the situation was rather difficult and demanded attraction of human forces and financing and 484 teams from communal services and energy workers – more than 2 500 people in total - were organized for mitigation of the consequences and the work is still going on.
Speaking at the meeting the Head of the Tatarstan Department of Hydrometeorology and Environmental Monitoring Sergey Zakharov said that all necessary information was published on the website of the HydroMetCenter and said that storms, hail and gusty wind up to 15-20m/sec are also forecast for Monday and Wednesday.
Tatarstan Minister of Youth Affairs Rinat Sadykov told the participants of the meeting that 26 out of 111 children summer recreation camps also suffered from the acts of nature with trees falling on fences and buildings. “However due to actions of the camp staff all children stayed safe,” he said.
According to information about Kazan, as of 10 o’clock in the morning of 30 July there were 318 reports about falling trees, damaged roofs and cars and cut electricity supply and the city administration organized 79 emergency response teams who are still working eliminating the consequences.
Rustam Nigmatullin also informed participants of the meeting that the Rais (Head) of Tatarstan Rustam Minnikhanov is following the situation as he has been informed about what has happened and is having the situation under his control.
