Rustam Minnikhanov meets the Governor of St Petersburg Aleksandr Beglov on the sidelines of the Russia-Africa Forum

On 27 July at their meeting on the sidelines of the Russia-Africa Economic and Humanitarian Forum, the Rais (Head) of Tatarstan Rustam Minnikhanov and the Governor of St Petersburg Aleksandr Beglov discussed issues of strengthening partnership interregional relations of Tatarstan and St Petersburg. Speaking at the meeting, Rustam Minnikhanov emphasized that the Northern capital is first of all the cultural and historic potential as well as the high industrial potential of one of the leading entities of the country.

Rustam Minnikhanov also stated that trade-economic and investments cooperation between the regions is also growing and the horizontal ties between them are very important.

Speaking about joint work in education, he informed that many students from Tatarstan study at St Petersburg universities and young people from the Northern capital also come to Kazan to receive the higher education.

The Rais of the republic reminded about the agreement on trade-economic-scientific-technical and social and cultural cooperation signed between Tatarstan and St Petersburg, the agreement between legislative bodies of the regions and the representative office of Tatarstan in St Petersburg. He also said that there are direct flights between the regions.

“St Petersburg is a big sales market for us, but at the same time Tatarstan is also interesting for producers of your city,” Rustam Minnikhanov said.

“In all issues we find full support and understanding from the administration of St Petersburg,” he said and thanked the Governor for that. ‘We highly appreciate the support given to work of Tatar public organizations as currently there are about 20 thousand Tatars living in St Petersburg”,  the Rais of the republic said.

In the conclusion of the meeting Rustam Minnikhanov wished Aleksandr Beglov successful work at the Russia-Africa Forum.
