On 17 July, during his working trip to the Province of Konya, the Rais (Head) of Tatarstan Rustam Minnikhanov visited the Mevlâna Museum dedicated to life and work of a philosopher Jalal ad-Din Muhammad Rumi.
The museum, officially opened in 1927, is built around the mausoleum of Jalal ad-Din Muhammad Rumi and is one of the most visited places in Turkey, with 2m people coming here every year. The mane object of interest of the museum and the chief pilgrimage site is the Mevlana's sarcophagus - a masterpiece of Seljuk woodcarvers of the XIII century.
Rustam Minnikhanov got acquainted with the museum history and looked round its exposition showing collections of ancient books, the Mevlevi order musical instruments, praying accessories and personal belongings of Mevlâna. A box with the piece of beard of Prophet Muhammad occupies a special place among museum exhibits.
