On June 22, on the Day of Remembrance and Sorrow, Russian Prime Minister Mikhail Mishustin, the Rais (Head) of Tatarstan Rustam Minnikhanov, Presidential Plenipotentiary Envoy to the Volga Federal District Igor Komarov and Mayor of Kazan Ilsur Metshin laid flowers at the Eternal Flame of the Colonnade of the Glory Memorial in the Kazan Victory Park.
As many as 700,000 people left Tatarstan for the front, more than half of them did not return home. 353 people became Heroes of the Soviet Union. During the war, Tatarstan was a major rear center. Hundreds of thousands of women, old people and children worked in factories and fields. More than 70 evacuated enterprises were located in the republic, more than 600 types of weapons, ammunition, and equipment were produced for the front. Labor heroism of Tatarstan people is marked by awarding Kazan the honorary title of the Russian Federation «City of Labor Valor».
