The Address of the Rais of Tatarstan Rustam Minnikhanov on the occasion of the Day of official adoption of Islam by the Volga Bulgaria

In his address on the occasion of the Day of official adoption of Islam by the Volga Bulgaria, the Rais (Head) of Tatarstan Rustam Minnikhanov congratulated residents of the republic, its guests and compatriots with the remarkable date of the Day of official adoption of Islam by the Volga Bulgaria.

“The watershed choice of our ancestors made in 922 had a decisive impact on the development of Tatars, expanded the boundaries of the Islamic civilization and mostly pre-defined the establishment of the Russian civilization which combined traditions of the West and the East. Centuries-long development of Islam in interaction with Orthodoxy and other religions laid a stable foundation for inter-religious and inter-ethnic concord, “he said.

Having reminded that in 2022 the celebrations of the 1100th anniversary of this event were held at the state level by the errand from the Russian President Vladimir Putin, Rustam Minnikhanov said that this year the event is held right after the International Economic Forum “Russia-Islamic world: KazanForum 2023” and the XIII All-Russia Forum of Tatar religious leaders. 

The participation of the Patriarch Kirill of Moscow and All Russia and high-rank representatives of the Islamic world countries in these events has become a bright example of the growing role of Tatarstan a s a platform for development on inter-civilizational dialogue and brining closer positions of Muslim and Orthodoxy religious leaders in protection of common values ,” the address went on.
