Rustam Minnikhanov takes part in a ceremony of unveiling a memorial plaque in Kazan dedicated to the first edition of Koran published in 1803

On 20 May, the Rais (Head) of Tatarstan Rustam Minnikhanov, the Chairman of the Religious Boar of Muslims of Russia Ravil hazrat Gaynutdin, the Mufti of the Spiritual Board of Muslims of Tatarstan Kamil Samigullin, the Rector of Kazan Federal University Lenar Safin and other officials took part in in a ceremony of unveiling a memorial plaque dedicated to the first edition of Koran published in 1803, which was installed in the yard of the University.

Speaking t the ceremony Rustam Minnikhanov said:”Today’s event is the historical as it immortalizes the printing of the Sacred Quran in Kazan in 1803, which later became well-known as the “Kazan edition”.

He continued: “The date is important not only for the Tatars but for all Muslims of the country as starting from that time Kazan editions of Quran became wide-spread and gained acknowledgement both in Russia and abroad. It is gratifying that the tradition of printing Quran in Kazan continues nowadays.”

Rustam Minnikhanov thanked everyone who took part in commemorating of this important event which will confirm the status of Kazan as the first city in the world of the first publication of Quran.
