Tatarstan Ministry of Agriculture and Food: The sowing campaign has been 95 per cent completed in the republic

On 13 May, speaking at a regional meeting held by the Rais (Head) of Tatarstan Rustam Minnikhanov in the Government House of the republic with participation of the regional Prime Minister Aleksey Pesoshin and the Chairman of the State Council of the republic Farid Mukhametshin, the regional Minister of Agriculture and Food Marat Zyabbarov  reported that the sowing campaign is close to the completion with 1.742m hectares or 95% of the planned territories cropped with spring cultures, such as cereals and leguminous crops, sugar beet, sunflower and rapes. He also informed that potatoes have been planted on 2 300 hectares which makes 47% of the planned and vegetables - on 1 000 hectares.

He said that because of the temperature drop last week about 30 thousand hectares of crops suffered in the republic, mostly in Bavly, Leninogorsk and Menzelinsk regions and farmers are planning to re-crop these territories.  With that said, the Minister once again reminded about insuring the crops in case of emergency and as of today the 509 thousand hectares of crops have been insured.

Marat Ayzatullin said that crop protection has been carried out over 700 thousand hectares and the foliar application – over 157 700 thousand hectares. He said it is necessary to ramp us this measures as there is torrid growth of weeds in the fields.
