On 5 April the Rais of Tatarstan Rustam Minnikhanov, who came on a one day working visit to Ashgabat, had a meeting with the Chairman of the People's Council of Turkmenistan Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedow, where he expressed his gratitude to him for personal support of issues of developing Tatarstan-Turkmenistan cooperation aimed at strengthening relations between Russia and Turkmenistan.
In his turn, welcoming Rustam Minnikhanov, Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedow stressed his role in strengthening cooperation between the countries. “I am happy to see you in hospitable brotherly Turkmenistan. You do a lot for strengthening relations between Russia and Turkmenistan and we attach great importance to this. Our bilateral relations also are developing successfully,” he said.
The parties also discussed development of cooperation in oil exploration, gas transportation, power economy and supply of chemical products. They also stressed the importance of developing cultural ties, education and tourism, and Rustam Minnikhanov informed that Turkmenistan is the first in the number of students in Tatarstan as there are 6 218 of them studying at the universities of the republic.
Rustam Minnikhanov attracted attention to the fact that under sanctions cooperation between Russia and Turkmenistan not just did not stop but continues to expand and this is the merit of Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedow.
He also invited Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedow to take part in the international economic forum “Russia-Islamic world: KazanForum” which is held in Kazan in the current May.
After the meeting both parties visited an industrial exhibition of goods manufactured in Turkmenistan, organized at the Chamber of Commerce of the country.
