On February 13, the Rais (the Head) of Tatarstan Rustam Minnikhanov together with Tatarstan Minister of Culture Irada Ayupova, Head of the Office of Tatarstan Rais Asgat Safarov, Mayor of Kazan Ilsur Metshin and other officials took part in a solemn ceremony of unveiling the memorial plaque to Fyodor Shalyapin, dedicated to the 150th anniversary of the birth of the famous opera singer.
Shalyapin was born in Kazan on Rybnoryadskaya Street (now Pushkin Street) on February 13, 1873. The facade of the building of the Lisitsyn-Emelin house (Pushkin Street 10) was chosen as the place for the installation of the memorial plaque. The memorial plaque is made of bronze and its author is sculptor Timofey Tyurin.
“We remember and honor the memory of the great singer. The Shaliapin Opera Festival is held annually; one of the streets of the capital is named after him. The landmark of the city was the monument to the great singer on Bauman Street. The memorial plaque that we are unveiling today will be a new tribute to the work of the great Shalyapin. I want to express my gratitude to all those who are not indifferent to the culture, history and creativity of the outstanding famous figures of our republic. It is very important to protect, preserve and popularize the cultural heritage that Fyodor Ivanovich left us,” Minnikhanov summed up.
