Rustam Minnikhanov at a meeting with the Ambassador of Libya to the Russian Federation: Tatarstan actively cooperates with the Islamic world and OIC member countries

On February 6, at their meeting in the Kazan Kremlin, Rais (the Head) of the Republic of Tatarstan Rustam Minnikhanov and the Ambassador of Libya to the Russian Federation Emhemed A.E. Almaghrawi discussed the issues of long-term cooperation under the Russian-Libyan relations, the implementation of a number of projects, as well as mutual cooperation.

The delegation of the State of Libya headed by its Ambassador to the Russian Federation Emhemed A.E. Almaghrawi arrived on a working visit in Kazan on February 5-8, 2023.

At the meeting, Minnikhanov also briefed about the development of Tatarstan and its economic potential. Thus, oil production, petrochemistry and oil refining are developed in the region, cars, airplanes, helicopters, ships, engineering products are produced. Tatarstan exports about half of manufactured industrial goods. Halal industry is actively developing, including product export.

Today, Tatarstan actively cooperates with the Islamic world and the countries - members of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC). In 2022, the 1100th anniversary of the adoption of Islam by the Volga Bulgaria was celebrated. The capital of Tatarstan - Kazan - in 2022 was the youth capital of OIC with a wide programme of events. The Global Youth Summit was a key event. Minnikhanov said that the KazanForum International Economic Summit remains the main platform for economic interaction between Russia and Muslim countries. Since 2023, by the decision of Russian President Vladimir Putin, it became a federal-level event. Minnikhanov invited the Ambassador of Libya and the Libyan delegation to take part in the forum.

During the meeting, the participants noted that students from Libya are studying at Kazan Volga Federal University. Minnikhanov expressed hope that the number of Libyan students in the universities of the republic will increase. Today it is important to work more actively on the development of cooperation between Tatarstan and Libya under the Russian-Libyan relations, Minnikhanov said. He also thanked the Ambassador for his attention to Tatarstan and for his visit to the republic. In his turn, Emhemed A.E. Almaghrawi expressed his gratitude for the attention to the delegation of Libya and for the fruitful programme. He said that there are a number of areas where mutually beneficial cooperation can be developed, including in the healthcare industry.
