On 31 January at their meeting in the Government house of the republic, Tatarstan President Rustam Minnikhanov and RF Presidential Commissioner for the Rights of Children Maria Lvova- Belova, who came on a working trip to Kazan to take part in an inter-departmental meeting on protection of rights and legal interests of children and visit a number of social institutions, discussed issues of protection of parentless children, children and families in hardships, prevention of social orphanhood and other topics, including projects of rehabilitation of children with disabilities being implemented in Tatarstan.
Answering questions from journalists after the meeting, Maria Lvova- Belova informed that in April of the current year Kazan will host an All-Russia event in healthcare with participation of children’s rights ombudsmen from 89 entities of the Federation, representatives of federal and regional Healthcare Ministries, who will discuss issues of medical care and early care of children, rehabilitation of children with disabilities, palliative care and care for children with orphan diseases.
She also told about state support measures for parents with disabled children as “your region is quite capable of supporting these families, and Tatarstan will become a pilot region in this issue”.
Answering a question about the street social service for teenagers, Maria Lvova- Belova said that she discussed this issue at the meeting with Rustam Minnikhanov. “You have good teenagers’ infrastructure such as sports and youth clubs. But these are mainly for bright and gifted teenagers while there are also youngsters who quite often find themselves to be in hardships. And this is what this service is needed for.”
“Your republic is doing a lot for providing wellbeing of children”, she said and informed that Tatarstan will become one of five pilot regions with the street social service for teenagers.
