On 8 November in the Kazan Kremlin, Tatarstan President Rustam Minnikhanov had a meeting with the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of Senegal to the Russian Federation Jean-Baptiste Thiathie Tine, who came on a three-day working visit to Tatarstan on 7 November. Regional Minister of Industry and Trade Oleg Korobchenko, the Aid to the President Gazinur Bakirov, Mayor of Kazan Ilsur Metshin and the representative of Russian Foreign Ministry in Kazan Radik Vakhitov also took part in the meeting.
Welcoming his guest, Rustam Minnikhanov thanked the Government of Senegal for organizing a visit of a delegation from Tatarstan in March 2022. He also stressed that Tatarstan-Senegal cooperation is aimed at strengthening relations between Russia and Senegal which celebrate their 60th birthday this year.
Tatarstan President said that the republic is interested in development of interaction with Senegal, and lately contacts between them have become more active. Thus, Tatarstan welcomed a delegation headed by the President of the National Olympics Committee and the Counselor of the Senegal President Mamadou Diagna Ndiaye, and a delegation headed by the Director General of the SIFI Group of Companies Abderrahmane Ndiaye.
Rustam Minnikhanov also reminded that by the errand of Russian President Vladimir Putin he is the head of the Russia-Islamic World Strategic Vision Group and noted that Senegal is a Muslim country with more than 95 per cent of population confessing Islam and on its turn Tatarstan is the most northern part of the Muslim World.
“Tatarstan and Senegal have good possibilities for ramping up their cooperation and strengthening Russia-Senegal relations in the whole,” Rustam Minnikhanov said and reminded that next year our country is planning to host the second Russia-Africa summit.
