Tatarstan President: Our republic pays great attention to improving the ecological safety of production

On August 31, speaking at the International Research-to-Practice Conference “The EU’s Decision Towards Decarbonization. One Year After” held under the Tatarstan Oil, Gas and Petrochemistry Forum at the Kazan Expo Exhibition Center, Tatarstan President Rustam Minnikhanov said that Tatarstan pays great attention to improving the ecological safety of production.

“A clean and safe environment is the foundation of the well-being of society. The issues of industrial safety, the introduction of green" technologies will always be relevant. The decree of Russian President Vladimir Putin on the reduction of greenhouse gas emissions fully corresponds to the natural demand of society for basic benefits - clean air, drinking water, forests and fields”, Tatarstan President said. He emphasized that for solving this task it is necessary to consolidate the efforts of the state, business and society.Minnikhanov drew attention that in today’s world all processes are related to the use of hydrocarbons in one way or another. Affordable energy resources are the basic and necessary condition for the competitiveness of national economies.

“Hydrocarbons are not only fuel and energy, but also the most valuable raw material for petrochemicals. Dmitry Mendeleev’s quote that burning oil and gas in a furnace is like melting a furnace with banknotes has become winged one,” Tatarstan President said.

Minnikhanov emphasized that the petrochemical complex is the basis of the Tatarstan economy. It occupies about 63 per cent of the total industrial production.

Tatarstan President expressed confidence that solving the environmental problems of industry is a common major task. At the same time, stimulation of transition to «green» technologies should be balanced and take into account the interests of business and society. Support should be comprehensive, based on the common good.

Conference participants discussed issues of carbon regulation and decarbonization in various sectors of the economy, got acquainted with the experience of Russian companies in reducing carbon emissions and implementing environmental projects.
