On August 18, Tatarstan President Rustam Minnikhanov got acquainted with the project of integrated development of the territory on Portovaya Street in Kazan, presented by Mayor of Kazan Ilsur Metshin.
The transformation will affect an area of 287 hectares, which is currently occupied by dilapidated factories, warehouses, abandoned utility rooms and garage cooperatives. It is planned that 1.5 million square meters of housing and 1.3 million square meters of administrative and commercial premises will appear here. The landscaping area and landscaped public spaces will take at least 25 percent of the planned area and will amount to 72 hectares.
During the implementation of this project, the city will have many kilometers of embankment, and existing facilities along the river will be transformed into museums, cafes and other public functions. The pedestrian connection with the centre of Kazan and the possibility of parking of small crafts will also be provided.
