Rustam Minnikhanov holds an online meeting with the Governor of the Iranian province of Gilan

On August 16, Tatarstan President Rustam Minnikhanov held an online meeting with the Governor of the Iranian province of Gilan (Islamic Republic of Iran) Asadollah Abbasi.

Gilan province is located on the southwestern coast of the Caspian Sea. The administrative centre is the city of Rasht. Agriculture, forestry, industry, construction, electricity, gas and water production are especially developed in the region. The largest Iranian port on the Caspian Sea "Enzeli” is located in Gilan.

Minnikhanov emphasized that Tatarstan highly values cooperation with Iran, aimed at strengthening Russian-Iranian relations. Leaders of both countries support development of interregional relations between Russia and Iran.

One of the most promising areas is the development of transport routes. Minnikhanov said that today the issue of full functioning of the international transport corridor "North-South" has become relevant. Issues of integrating Tatarstan logistics centres into chains running along the Kama and Volga rivers and further along the Caspian Sea in the direction of Iranian ports are underway. “In the future, this will create a good opportunity for the delivery of goods by water to Iran, as well as further to other countries,” Tatarstan President believes.

Minnikhanov proposed to actively develop cooperation in agro-industrial complex, to establish mutual supply of various types of products, including meeting halal standards, to strengthen interaction between chambers of commerce and industry and industrial zones.

The Governor of Gilan Province also outlined a number of areas for developing cooperation between the regions. Thus, a free economic zone operates in Gilan. Abbasi invited Tatarstan companies to develop their projects at this site. In turn, the entrepreneurs of the province of Gilan are interested in opening fish farms in Tatarstan. In addition, the governor proposed to organize exhibitions of products of manufacturers from Tatarstan and the province of Gilan in Kazan and Rasht.
