Rustam Minnikhanov: Uyav has become one of the cultural brands of Tatarstan

On July 10, in the Alkeyevsk region of the republic, Tatarstan President Rustam Minnikhanov together with Governor of the Ulyanovsk region Aleksey Russkikh, Head of the Chuvash Republic Oleg Nikolaev, leader of Communist Party of the Russian Federation Gennady Zyuganov, Chairman of the State Council of Tatarstan Farid Mukhametshin, Chairman of the Zvenigovsky agricultural production co-operative Ivan Kazankov took part in the regional holiday of the Chuvash culture "Uyav".

Minnikhanov arrived at the main festive site in the Chuvash national costume. He looked around the historical quarter, where peasant houses of the 19th century were reconstructed. Here the guests were informed about the traditional life of the Chuvash people, demonstrated household utensils and agricultural tools.

Tatarstan President and other guests visited national farmsteads, got acquainted with the Chuvash customs and rites, and also looked around the new park «100 years of the USSR», where they planted trees.

In his welcoming speech, Minnikhanov congratulated all those gathered on the Uyav holiday. “The traditions of this holiday reveal to us a huge world of original Chuvash culture, rooted deep in the past. Uyav became one of the cultural brands of our republic along with Russian Karavon, Tatar Sabantuy, Udmurt Gyron-Bydton, Mari Semyk, Mordovian Valda Shinyas,” he emphasized.

“Uyav acquires special significance in the Year of the Cultural Heritage of the Peoples of Russia. The Chuvash are friendly, hardworking people who take care of their language, traditions and customs. They occupy a worthy place in a single Tatarstan family, make a significant contribution to the development of the Republic of Tatarstan, beautufy and enrich our multinational culture,” Minnikhanov said.

Tatarstan President expressed gratitude for the high-level organization of the holiday to its organizers and the Chuvash national and cultural autonomy of the republic.

Then Minnikhanov handed in a number of state awards of the republic.

This year, about 10,000 guests from all over the country and neighboring countries took part in the Chuvash national holiday. Uyav brought together more than 100 Chuvash creative teams from many regions of the country.
