On 8 July in the Kazan City Hall Tatarstan President Rustam Minnikhanov, the State Counselor of the republic Mintimer Shaimiev and Russian Minister of Construction and Housing and Utilities Sector Irek Fayzullin took part in the ceremony of awarding winners of the open international competition in the draft design of the Cathedral Mosque and its surroundings in Kazan.
As many as 40 Russian and foreign companies took part in the competition, which was launched on 1 April in the current year and according to the decision of the jury the first place was given to two projects, namely from the architectural-restauration bureau “Ginsburg Architects” from Moscow and the project of the architect Ayvar Sattarov from Kazan.
Speaking at the ceremony, Irek Fayzullin highly appreciated all projects and said:” Each of them had something special. But such a beautiful city as Kazan must have a monument which will live for centuries. I thank all participants.”
In his turn Rustam Minnikhanov stressed that one of the important events in the year of celebration of the 110th anniversary of adopting Islam by the Volga Bulgaria was laying the cornerstone on the site of the future Cathedral Mosque which will house up to 10 thousand believers.
